The Koudeberg Rustic Cottages

These cottages (one with four simple bedrooms and one with the kitchen and the living space) are situated in a beautiful and secluded valley in the private nature reserve of farm 215, 20 kilometres from Gansbaai and accessed from the Elim road to Cape Agulhas.

This is also where the Centre for Appropriate Rural Technology (CART) is located. The CART is a test-kitchen for the re-structuring of agricultural production systems and seeks to create awareness, education and implementation of sustainable farming technologies to bring agriculture back in harmony with nature. The CART regularly organizes courses in permaculture and sustainable techniques, but the cottages are also available for accommodation during horse trails and as self-catering accommodation (though wholesome meals made from produce out of the CART gardens can be arranged for).

The bedrooms share showers and toilets, accessible from the stoep. The communal cottage has simple cooking facilities and a woodstove.

From the Koudeberg Valley there is access to many kilometres of hiking, biking and horse trails through pristine fynbos covered hills. At the end of the valley there is a stunning dam filled with golden-brown mountain water, great for swimming and relaxing at the water edge.
